CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - - Police in Cheektowaga are trying to locate a dog that attacked a young girl the owner says his dog has never been vicious in the past. Paul Cronan wants to tell us what he says happened with his dog "Doo" on Sunday. Anna Warden told News 4 that Cronan's dog attacked her two-year-old daughter Briana.
Anna Warden, "The dog came right after her and pushed her in the corner, her stroller is still there and he had her up against the shovel."
Tthis is how Cronan described the incident to us, today.
Paul Cronan, "I was on my way to go to work and I was taking my dog outside to do what he had to do as the mother was walking in the house. And as the mother opened the door, she'd seen the dog, the child screamed and then the mother had a stroller in her hand and she either dropped the stroller or threw it. Either way the stroller hit the dog and as the child was screaming, the dog jumped up."
Ccronan says he pulled the dog away, but "Doo" had already managed to injure Briana who needed 20 stitches. We were hoping to speak with her mother today but she wasn't home. Cronan says he wants people to know "Doo" has never been vicious in the two years he owned him.
Capt. John Glascott, "Once we find this animal we'd like to bring it in and just make sure it hasn't got rabies so this little girl doesn't have to go through series of painful shots."
Captain Glascott tells us Cronan has been cooperative with police.
Paul Cronan, "My number one concern is not hiding the dog. The little girl might have to go through substantial amount of pain. I would give anything to make sure she didn't have to go through that."
Paul Cronan tells us his dog is a yellow lab and an american bull dog mix not a pit bull. Cronan also says the dog received its rabies shot back in
September.
OK, I saw the dog on TV and it's a LOT more Pit Bull than it is yellow Lab! But, whatever the breed, if the owner didn't think the dog was dangerous, why has he since given away or sold the animal? You should'be seen this poor little kid w/ stitches all over her face...it was heartbreaking!
